Marathon Capital has advised Vitol Green Holdings (“Vitol”) on the sale of Big Sky Wind (the “Project”), a 240 MW repowered wind farm located in Illinois within PJM Interconnection territory, to Potentia Renewables Inc. (“Potentia”).

Marathon Capital provided valuation, structuring, due diligence, and negotiation support throughout the highly competitive sale process to facilitate an efficient closing for all parties involved.

Vitol is a leading energy and commodities company in the world and has committed close to $3 billion of capital to sustainable investments globally. Vitol originally acquired Big Sky Wind from BlackRock in 2021 to repower the project, which they successfully completed in 2022. Vitol retains active involvement in the Project through its tax equity investment and as a partial offtaker.

Potentia Renewables is a portfolio company of Power Sustainable Energy Infrastructure Partnership (PSEIP), an investment platform sponsored by Power Sustainable Capital and Desjardins Group among others. The acquisition expands Potentia’s operations across the PJM region, which continues to be an increasingly attractive market.

Marathon Capital previously advised Vitol on the sale of an operating wind portfolio to Exus/Partners Group earlier last year.
