Iain Watson, Head of Canada & Country Manager at Marathon Capital, is based in Calgary, Alberta. He works closely with the firm’s senior leadership to expand the brand in one of the most important clean energy markets and further establish the firm’s physical presence in Canada.

Iain joined Marathon Capital from National Bank Financial, where he was Head of Power & Utilities. He was responsible for primary account coverage and mandate origination, working with clients in the power, utilities, and clean technology industries, including global financial sponsors invested in these industries. Over the course of Iain’s 25+ year career in investment banking, he has advised clients on a variety of notable strategic transactions across the broader clean energy sector and led financing initiatives for many established Canadian issuers in the energy and infrastructure sectors. Prior to joining National Bank Financial, Iain held roles at Canaccord and RBC Capital Markets in Calgary, and SG Barr Devlin in New York City.

Iain earned a BA in Finance (First Class Honors) from the University of Strathclyde in Scotland, U.K., and is a Canadian Securities Course graduate. He holds the Partners’, Directors’, and Senior Officers’ (PDO), and is qualified as a Dealing Representative.
